Friday afternoon I walked out of a small gift shop in downtown Los Gatos after buying a birthday present for a friend and saw this mural down the street.
It depicts the Three Graces of Greek mythology: Joy, Beauty, and Splendor, figures traditionally shown in a circle, each offering something to the next.
The moment felt oddly serendipitous.
Where the name came from
The name CHARIS comes from the same origin.
The Graces symbolized the idea that blessings move through relationships, given, received, and returned.
That circular exchange is what inspired CHARIS: the belief that a thoughtful gift can strengthen emotional memory between people and quietly sustain community.
The idea is simple, but it changes how we think about giving.
A gift is not only something that moves from one person to another. It can become part of the relationship itself, carrying attention, recognition, and something of the moment in which it was given.
A reminder of why it matters
Seeing that mural was a reminder of why the idea for CHARIS mattered to me in the first place.
Sometimes the world has a way of affirming the path you’re on.
